This post is dedicated to children (of all ages) who grew up with a parent diagnosed with schizophrenia. I grew up during the ’80s/’90s when Mental Health diagnosis was considered shameful, embarrassing, taboo, etc. Despite all those sentiments associated with such a diagnosis, as an adult and professional Social Worker, I reflect on all those emotions I felt during my tender years.
Although never able to express those feelings as a child, this post offers an A-Z list of all those feelings. However, as a professional, I have learned to turn those bleak emotions into optimism. If this post helps at least one individual turn those dim emotions to brightness, then G-d has helped me be instrumental for someone in need.
To the reader who reads this, always know that You are not alone….
